I purchased a non-OEM gas cap replacement from a well known retailer, and that was my first mistake! I could tighten the new cap and it would just pop right off the gas filler tube.
I ordered a new MOPAR OEM gas cap from Just for Jeeps and am so happy I did.
It is high quality and I received it in 3 days.
The error code on my console display did not clear automatically, so I disconnected the car battery for 30 minutes.
Reconnected the car battery and it cleared the error code.

After the third start up of the engine after installing the new cap, the light went out.

Why hang onto a gas cap when it's meant to br attached? Local parts stores didn't carry it. Just for Jeeps is an easy to navigate website, excellent service.

Engine light went on (on my 2005 Jeep Liberty) and I got an error message P0457, which suggests some sort of EVAP leak.
